FAQs About Sex Therapy
What is sex therapy?
Sex therapy is a specialized form of talk therapy that focuses on issues related to intimacy, desire, arousal, communication, and sexual well-being. It can help both individuals and couples feel more connected, reduce shame, and build healthier sexual relationships.
Is there any physical contact in sex therapy?
No. Sex therapy is strictly talk therapy. There is no physical contact, nudity, or sexual activity during sessions. Instead, we explore thoughts, emotions, past experiences, and relationship dynamics that influence your sexual self.
Who can benefit from sex therapy?
Anyone who wants to:
Heal from shame or trauma connected to sexuality
Increase sexual confidence and comfort
Address mismatched desire with a partner
Improve communication about sex and intimacy
Navigate sexual identity, orientation, or kink/poly affirming concerns
Can sex therapy help if I’ve experienced trauma?
Yes. My practice is trauma-informed with a focus on CPTSD. We always prioritize safety and pacing so that conversations about intimacy are empowering, never overwhelming.
Do you only see couples for sex therapy?
No. I work with both individuals and couples. Many clients start individually to explore their own relationship with sexuality, while others come as a couple to improve intimacy and connection.
Are you LGBTQIA+ and poly affirming?
Absolutely. I provide a safe, affirming space for LGBTQIA+ and polyamorous clients, and I practice from an anti-racist, Health at Every Size (HAES), body-affirming perspective.
Do you work with neurodivergent clients around intimacy?
Yes. Many of my neurodivergent clients (autistic, ADHD, or both) come to explore how their neurotype influences sexuality, relationships, and communication. We highlight your strengths while creating strategies that work for your unique needs.
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
I encourage you to schedule a free 15-minute consultation. This gives us a chance to talk about what you’re looking for and see if my approach feels right for you.
